Last Operating Belorussiya-class Ship, Salamis Filoxenia Sold To Dubai-based Company
Salamis Tours subsidiary, Mana Shipping, has reached an agreement for the sale of Salamis Filoxenia, their sole-ship, for a sum of 4.1 million dollars, according to a local trustworthy source. The buyer, Prime Spot Ship Trading, has put a 15% deposit down, with the rest due when the ship is delivered.
Salamis Filoxenia is the last operating Belorussiya-class ship, with her four sister ships all crippled. For starters, the Delphin has been laid-up for a long time in Rijeka shipyards, Croatia, with technical issues, and the remainder three sisters have all been scrapped. Island Venture was the first to head the scrappers route, in 2011, followed by Enchanted Capri and Starry Metropolis in 2021. Whilst Metropolis and Island Venture reached the beaches of Alang, Enchanted Capri never reached her intended destination and has broke free from the tow line during a storm that plagued the towing operation to a mexican scrapyard, and ended up drifting to shore, ending up aground and scrapped in-sito.

Despite beeing in operational conditions, Salamis Filoxenia did not sail in 2020 and 2021, due to the current global health situation. The reasons for selling the ship include the uncertainty regarding when it could be back to commercial cruising, and a "pretty satisfatory offer" according to a press release.
The deal should be finalized this month, including delivery. This doesn't mean it is the end for Salamis, as the group is evaluating the possibility of buying a new cruise ship. Salamis Filoxenia is the former Van Gogh, which operated for Club Cruise, british-market dedicated cruise line, since 1998 and up until 2009. Other names include Club 1, Odessa Sky and Gruziya, the latter, her build name, back in 1975.
