Cunard Officially Names Queen Anne - Here's What We Know About It
Cunard Line has officially named their fourth ship, Queen Anne, this Tuesday. The Queen Anne will be based on Holland America's Koningsdam-class design, with a Cunard-luxury twist and refinement. Cunard writes: "For over 180 years we¡¯ve set the bar, and then raised it. We were the first to offer a regular Transatlantic Crossing. The first to offer a voyage around the world. We constantly refine the definitive experience of ocean travel. From this spirit comes the finest ship of its era. An incredible place to explore. We¡¯ve reimagined what it means to voyage. We¡¯ve extended the Cunard Line for future generations. Ensuring that everything is inspiring, unforgettable, and unexpected." Queen Anne will be the 249th ship in Cunard's history, and the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four ships in their fleet. The name 'Queen Anne' commemorates Cunard's rich heritage, royal history and refined status, joining a contemporary luxury fleet that now honors the names of every British Queen Regent over the last millennium.

The Cunard team explored multiple naming options and, inspired by the reign of Queen Anne, engaged British historian, author and television presenter, Kate Williams, to help with the detailed research. Kate says: ¡°It is so exciting that the fourth ship in the fleet is named after Queen Anne. She has a fascinating story to tell ¨C that of kingship, the unity of the development of constitutional monarchy and the golden age of the arts. "She was an inspiring woman, very popular with her people. She needs to be commemorated. This new ship in the Cunard fleet is the perfect way to do it!" Queen Anne will feature iconic Cunard spaces, as well as the introduction of new experiences for passengers within gastronomy, culture and entertainment, for an unparalleled cruise voyage underpinned by exceptional White Star service. Bridging tradition and Contemporary luxury, Queen Anne blends the influential design styles of past and present and introduces an updated Cunard line. World-renowned designers have joined forces to create an extraordinary and thoughtful design that sets standards, inspiring a new way of traveling at sea.
